3D Printers Designing Medical Masks

March 28, 2020 By Christian in Default

An educational facility in Montreal and a manufacturing company in Spain are pooling their resources towards the development of medical masks. This news comes after McGill University in Montreal announced that their highest-educated students would develop protective equipment for Health Care Works battling against the Covid-19 Pandemic. This follows after medical supplies have been dwindling worldwide, which extends to personal protective equipment as well.

These students will use the 3D Printing Facilities at McGill University to design these products. They’ll be using a design created by Prusa, a corporation that focused on 3D Printing in Prague. Prusa assisted these students in creating an original layout, which has also been provided to Nagami Design in Spain. Mass production of these masks is slated to begin by March 31st.

The Spanish Equivalent

Nagami Design is a Robotic-Furniture Manufacturer in Spain. They’ve terminated their robotic operations, meaning that 3D-Printed furniture isn’t being crafted for the foreseeable future. 3D Printers will instead be implemented towards the creation of new face masks for medical staff throughout Italy and Spain. Nagami Design typically created furniture from these oversized 3D Printers, which are named the “Zaha Hadid Architects”. The shortage of medical equipment throughout Spain and Italy prompted this corporation to implement the manufacturing changes.

The Nagami Design Face Masks are a by-product of the design created by McGill University. Alterations in the model include the implementation of visors, which is attached from the forehead toward to neckline. Securing the screen is accomplished with specialized elastics and plastic films. The plastic film is fastened with a secondary band, allowing for the protective shield to be sealed around the human body. This ensures that Covid-19 cannot be exposed in any manner to medical officials.

3D Printing Technologies have become the ultimate designing tool for manufacturing during Covid-19. It’s allowing multiple companies to change their operational strategies and move towards the benefit of medical staff and worldwide citizens. These face mask designs are open-sourced code through Prusa, allowing any company to follow the blueprints assessed by Nagami Design. It should be noted that they’ve already begun mass production and will begin shipping by April 1st.

Canadian Citizens Designing Low-Maintenance Ventilators

March 21, 2020 By Christian in Default

Respiratory support across Canada is limited, with demands from citizens increasing daily amongst the Covid-19 Pandemic. The delayed action from Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Government has prompted minimal supplies for testing Covid-19 or practising social distancing measures. It’s inspired a collective of Montreal Hospitals to begin challenging their local citizens to design low-maintenance ventilator masks. These masks would be provided to Canadian citizens in hotspot locations without protective gear.

This Canada-wide issue is following suit globally, with healthcare professionals worldwide being forced to select which patients will live and which will die. Multiple medical institutions want this unfortunate demand to be obliterated. That’s why the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, with the assistance of McGill University Health Centre & Research Institute, are collecting concepts from participants until March 31st.

Whoever is selected with the best product will receive $200,000.00 under the “Code Life Ventilator Challenge”. Participants will need to design a low-cost ventilator mask that is easy-to-use and easy-to-build with home-based products. It’ll enable self-isolated Canadian citizens and medical officials to create these masks for those in need of immediate assistance.

The Montreal General Hospital Foundation is recommending that participants create designs through 3D Printers. Multiple corporations globally have access to 3D Printers, with home-based individuals also owning these products. It’ll enable potentially thousands to develop these masks and distribute them to their loved ones. MGHF implemented a conditional factor that required the 3D Printer design to be widely available under a free download.

Health officials with gleam outlooks on the Covid-19 Pandemic state that 70% of the world’s population could become affected by this virus. Creating these products within a period of two or four weeks could save the lives of millions. That’s the ultimate goal for this Montreal-based association, who are drastically concerned about the availability of medical supplies to Canadian citizens.

Covid-19 in Canada

The coronavirus pandemic across the Canadian Provinces has become severe, with 1000+ reported infections occurring throughout the nation. Ontario and British Columbia are seeing the highest rates of exposure, with a large percentage of Canadian citizens avoiding the recommendations of medical officials. There’s also been a substantial decline in available food, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, baby formula, medical masks, ventilator masks and medical gloves. The limited availability of products is forcing the Canadian Government to alter manufacturing processes across the entire country.

Airbnb Fund Financing Unique Home Projects

March 14, 2020 By Christian in Default

There have been few successes like Airbnb when it applies to the travel industry. Following the increased outbreak of the coronavirus, this corporation is creating new strategies to ensure that profits aren’t limited going forward. This will require the assistance of customers with creative personalities who want to engage with the Airbnb Fund. Large quantities of money will be provided to ten designers globally, with those individuals required to prove they can create unusual rental properties. Those ten awarded the Airbnb Fund will be provided $100,000.00 by May 2020.

There’ll be a series of panellists that will review the various submissions made by thousands worldwide. This will include Billy Porter and Kristie Wolf, with those individuals being an award-winning actor and Airbnb Super-Host respectively. When questioned on her selection to be a guest judge on this panel, Porter mentioned that he’d want properties that push the boundaries of modern architecture. It was also noted that fans have been supportive about him joining this global search, with Billy Porter himself being excited for what’s to come.

Those designers that complete applications will be judged on their capabilities and creativity to build social outlets for Airbnb customers. This is expected to include unusual designs in unknown locations with concepts that are unique to the 2020 Era. It should be noted that Airbnb made this fund management account after multiple other organizations have begun competing in this space. Unique rentals aren’t exclusively provided through Airbnb anymore, with private owners renting Tiny Homes or Windmills in European Regions. It’s prompted a decline of 35% in market share for the Airbnb Company. Those wanting to enter this competition have until April 15th to submit their designs, with winners being announced by May 15th.

Limited Bookings for Airbnb

There will be substantial challenges for the Airbnb Company moving forward, with the coronavirus outbreak prompting an immediate decline of travellers at 93.4%. It’s expected that the travel industry will face the most severe impact from COVID-19, with upwards of $5 billion slated to be lost by the summer. It’ll be challenging for Airbnb to have consumers travel from their home nation to an international location, especially when travelling restrictions have been implemented globally. Most marketing analysts believe this will be a failed project on Airbnb’s behalf.

March 1, 2020 By Christian in Default

It’s the time of year when international design and architecture exhibits start to unveil new projects to consumers. However, this year will be different than any other for this community with the growing fears towards the coronavirus. It follows after health officials worldwide are beginning to prepare themselves for this global pandemic, with the rate of the infection becoming worse with each passing day. Considering that China is one of the most prominent markets for architecture and design communities, it’s expected that the overwhelming percentage of these events will be terminated.

Three locations have seen significant outbreaks of the coronavirus, with the People’s Republic of China being the largest. Next is South Korea, who have entered similar quarantine protocols like the PRC. The final outbreak location is located in Italy throughout the Northern Lombardy Region. One of the most notable venues cancelled in the Italian Region includes the “Salone Del Mobile”, which is considered the most prominent furniture trade show worldwide.

The Shocking Venues Not Cancelled

The 2020 Milan Fashion Week hasn’t been cancelled, but the event has been forcibly altered in multiple ways. It follows after increasing travel restrictions for international designers, models and consumers. Typically more than two thousand individuals arrive in Milan from the United States for the fashion week, with 2020 having only a select handful coming.

Staff members travelling from known outbreak destinations will be forced into self-quarantine, meaning their projects and clothing lines must be showcased through advertised video. It should be noted that even though Milan hasn’t cancelled their fashion week, both Shanghai and Beijing shut down their respective clothing venues.

Another event that shockingly wasn’t cancelled is the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale, which is slated to begin in May 2020. It was expected that this venue would be terminated with the growing outbreak throughout Italy, with health officials warning the public that the coronavirus will become worse before becoming better.

Cancelled Events

It should be noted that not even organized event in Italy hasn’t been stubborn and refused to shut down. The Venice Carnival was terminated last week after the Veneto Region became the second province in Italy to have the coronavirus outbreak. Now the biggest question looms over well-known events ending from the COVID-19 Virus, with that being the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Sporting analysts believe it’s inevitable.

Jaguar Implementing VR Tech for Design Purposes

February 10, 2020 By Christian in Designer Friend

Virtual Reality is becoming the best technology possible for auto engineers, proving them the capability to create prototype vehicles without the extension associated cost. One of the first auto manufacturers that is implementing this technology is Jaguar – Land Rover, which operates a simulator group that’s directly responsible for building virtual vehicles with standard engineering processes. Every part of the car can be visualized with 3D Models, enabling engineers to determine how all the parts work with one another. Performances of these vehicles are simulated, even the combustion process involved with cylinder blocks. It’s resulted in substantial cost savings for Jaguar – Land Rover.

Jaguar – Land Rover isn’t the only auto manufacturer that implements this technology. Both Mercedes and Ford have used virtual reality technology for a prolonged period, with state-of-the-art advancements added regularly to ensure the reality centre is fully capable of dealing with any alterations in the auto industry. Their latest upgrades include 4K Digital Cinema Projectors, Super Computers and Motion Pads. It creates a traversable environment in an open space that doesn’t require any VR Helmets. The virtual reality creations are displayed through the projectors, which work in correlation with the supercomputers.

The Jaguar XJ and Range Rover Evoque have both been developed with this technology, which the auto manufacturer believes helped assist with the associated development time. Instead of the current six-month period, it was dropped to four months with the Jaguar Virtual Reality Centre. The challenge facing the Jaguar corporation is the long-term capabilities of this technology, as the associated cost to upgrade these reality centres is extensive.

Old is Better than New

Standard development methods are low cost, with auto analysts expecting that delayed updated will follow for the Jaguar’s reality centre. Once the technology has become more cemented and limited in its upgrade capabilities, the associated cost will be lower than developing a clay model of their vehicles. Jaguar has implored the clay method for more than 80+ years. Right now, the Jaguar Company uses virtual reality technology to visual every stage of development for new vehicles. This extends to new tools and manufacturing processes.

New Manufacturing Processes for Home Owners

January 30, 2020 By Christian in Default, Designer Friend

Climate Change has become one of the most discussed global topics in the last ten years. Multiple corporations and institutions are working towards new eco-friendly products. The most recent comes from the University of Colorado, with a group of scientists confirming that their developing specialized bacteria that can be used to building materials. Using this form of material would drastically limit carbon footprints for construction builders. These scientists will employ living bacteria that are infamous for collecting carbon dioxide, which then makes their structure more sound and concrete. The University of Colorado confirmed that this bacteria could be reformatted for mortar and cement as well. Subsequently, the applications of these biological building materials could be endless.

For a prolonged period, this was a concept from scientists at the university. After considerable delegations by financers, they’ve finally acquired the donations required to start the experimentation process. These scientists will use cyanobacteria, which is associated with the Synchronous Genus. When these bacteria have collected carbon dioxide in certain conditions, it can reproduce calcium carbonate. This is the ingredient that binds limestone, one of the most durable natural materials on Planet Earth. Accomplishing the brick-format for the cyanobacteria will require these scientists to implement inoculated colonies inside gelatin and sand. Twerking the atomized elements of this material will enable them to receive the desired result.

Test Complete

University of Colorado Scientists completed their task last week. After altering the biological structure of the cyanobacteria, the calcium carbonate engaged with the gelatins and sands microbes. This occurred while the cyanobacteria were removing carbon dioxide. It created a stable compound with 100x the strength and resistance of standardized material used today. After considerable tests regarding its durability in multiple environments, Colorado Scientists said that in humid conditions, this material is stronger than limestone.

These scientists noted that this is just the beginning, that biological solutions can excel in building materials via cyanobacteria. They anticipate that if construction firms adopted this material, we’d inevitably see skyscrapers and large coliseums built from this material. It’d provide a far more sustainable environment for mother nature and us. However, they did express that it’ll take a prolonged period before finding an industrial development process for these ecological bricks. We will keep our readers informed regarding any updates or official announcements regarding the commercial usage of UOCs Eco-logical bricks.

Apple iPhone 12 Design Speculation

January 25, 2020 By Christian in Default, Designer Friend

There’s always an influx of rumours regarding the next generation of iPhones. However, the news regarding the 12th generation is beginning to become more exciting than in recent years. Formidable leakers have expressed that significant changes to the design are being made, with the body being altered and colour options being increased. This follows after other rumours that indicated previous colours would be removed following September 2020, with Midnight Green being the selected colour for termination. The new colour schemes would be centred around deep blue and purple hues, with the latter being one of the most desired palate schemes for 2020. This would mean the 2020 iPhones would support White, Silver, Space Grey and Dark Blue.

Mobile phone analysts have been shocked by these recent rumours, with Apple introducing the Midnight Green colour scheme with the 11th generation of the iPhone. It was the highest-selling iPhone since the Red Cross variation back on the 8th generation. The Apple Corporation hadn’t seen increased sales like this for a prolonged period, with online locations and local retailers regularly being sold out. Additional rumours indicate that the 4th colour option from Apple will be changed with each generation. This would continuously allow for an influx of sales, regardless of the bodies design is altered.

The most significant rumours regarding the 12th Generation iPhone is that the body will be altered, with its aerodynamics more resembling the 4th and 5th generation iPhones. It should be noted that housing manufacturers haven’t provided any legal data regarding IPs, Trademarks or Blueprints for new designs. This suggests that the housing alteration is pre-emptively being released by leakers. There’s a chance that the 4th and 5th generation design could be returned with the 14th generation. Releasing this new housing in two generations would mark a nostalgic selling point, as it’d be a decade old at that point.

Apple Eliminating Lightning Port

The Lightning Port, it’s been used on every iPhone and iPad since the 5th generation, with millions worldwide having one somewhere in their drawers. Additional rumours suggest that the Apple Corporation would be removing the lightning port altogether. Consumers would be forced to use wireless charging, which would mean purchasing Apple’s respective product for wireless capabilities. Representatives with Apple confirmed that this design implementation wouldn’t be enforced for at least five generations, with potential E-Waste being upwards of billions of pounds.
